Our Story

A practice born from a belief that Africa deserves bold architectural thinking, delivered with disciplined project management.

De Grande Arch Space (Pty) Ltd was founded in 2022 in Melrose North, Johannesburg. The practice was established with a clear purpose: to bring together rigorous project management methodology and bold architectural design under one roof, giving clients a single trusted partner from concept to closeout.

DGAS has delivered work across three sub-Saharan African countries in the residential, healthcare, civic, religious and educational sectors. Every project applies international standards within a deeply Afrocentric context — honouring the communities we build for.

Where specialist input is required, DGAS coordinates structural engineers, quantity surveyors and other consultants to deliver fully integrated solutions, maintaining a single point of accountability throughout.

Leadership

Joseph Tamale

Principal — Professional Architect

Joseph Tamale is a PMP-certified Project Manager and SACAP-registered Professional Architect with over 10 years of experience across sub-Saharan Africa. He holds dual Master’s degrees in Project Management from the University of the Witwatersrand, and in Architecture — a rare combination that enables genuine end-to-end project leadership from initial concept through to practical completion and closeout.

His cross-disciplinary expertise means clients benefit from an architect who thinks like a project manager and a project manager who thinks like an architect — resulting in projects that are well-designed, well-delivered and well-governed.
